| Description: | Spell checking, text to speech, speech recognition, scanning, collecting facts and making maps of ideas are a few of the features available. |
| Purpose: | This program has many features to help support the person who has difficulty composing and proof reading written language. Those with dyslexia and other literacy difficulties find it helpful and it can be used to support those for whom English is not their first language. The word prediction section can help those with typing difficulties. The RealSpeak SAPI 5 voices are comfortable to listen to and may be used to aid reading. |
| Features: | There is one cycling menu bar which moves through buttons for spell checking based on phonic errors, a thesaurus with dictionary definitions and homophone checking with meanings, word prediction which has choices for the way the words are ordered and more. It includes one button scanning for documents (Word, PDF and Daisy), screenshot reader for reading locked PDFs and text in Flash files, as well as access to the web for fact finding and storing notes and exporting in MP3 or wave format. The notes collected can be made into a graphical map to which more ideas can be added. There is a scientific talking calculator, a pronunciation guide, text keyword highlighting and summarising and a teacher's toolkit with PDF accessibility Editor, test taker and PDF Aloud. The tool kit allows for increased customisation and also allows sections of the program to be turned off so that for instance, the speech alone can be used in an exam situation without having the calculator, dictionary, spellchecker or thesaurus available. Most dialog boxes can be expanded to increase font sizes, menu buttons can be enlarged and have text and all background colours and fonts can be altered to suit the user. The menu bar can be unlocked to float anywhere required, reduced and expanded depending on the task or user preference. Reads using text reader box in Excel and Access. Can be used with other voices available on the system including foreign languages if speech settings are changed. Speech recognition is an option using the Microsoft in-built recognition system. There is also a Daisy reader format used for many e-books. For those applying for support under the Disabled Student's Allowance this product will cost £240.
